Ask lifecycle questions at the beginning
Beyond materials, consider manufacturing, use, maintenance and what happens after use.

Topics & keywords
At the concept stage, we recommend a lifecycle question list: where do materials come from, how is the product made and transported, can it be repaired, and what happens after use?
The list identifies missing evidence and brings environmental goals into early design discussions. It does not replace lifecycle assessment, and labels such as recyclable or recycled material do not by themselves establish overall environmental performance.
For future projects, our aim is to turn these questions into design requirements and examine key choices when data becomes available.
